Broad Spectrum: Contemporary Quilts
The first exhibition is Broad Spectrum: Contemporary Quilts. This exhibit features quilts created by 21 contemporary artists from the Montana/Idaho region. Each quilt tells its own unique story; each quilt was inspired by natural beauty and made with colorful fabrics and intricate designs. This exhibit’s purpose is to celebrate these impressive quilters’ creativity and craftsmanship and showcase their work for the public to enjoy.
Northcutt Steele Gallery Director Dr. Leanne Gilbertson describes the exhibit as “offering a bounty of colors, textures and concepts. Like the best meal and best dinner party, each artwork exists as an entity unto itself made richer by the company it keeps. I hope this collection enlivens your senses and provides some sustaining comfort in these challenging times.”
The Contemporary Quilts exhibit runs from January 7th–February 25th, 2023, with a special reception on Thursday, January 12th, 2023, from 5pm-7pm.
Gateway to Glacier: Selections from the Hockaday Permanent Collection
This exhibition showcases specially curated pieces from the museum’s permanent collection, selected for the inaugural exhibition in the Wanda Hollensteiner Art Gallery. These paintings, photographs, and sculptures are arranged to tell the story of the museum’s exhibition history. Some artists whose work you will see on display include Rudy Autio, Charles Davis, Jeanne Hamilton, Neil Parsons, Kevin Red Star, Karen Leigh, Mark Ogle, and Echo Ukrainetz, as well as many others.

Members Salon 2023
This final exhibition is the Members Salon, an annual community favorite for over 25 years. This exhibit features artwork created by members of the Hockaday Museum. Enjoy paintings, sculptures, photography, drawings, and more, all done by museum members of all ages and skill levels.
The Members Salon exhibit also includes a People’s Choice award, allowing all community members to vote for a first, second, and third place piece of art. Voting begins Thursday, January 12th, 2023, at the exhibit’s opening reception from 5pm-7pm and closes on February 10th. The first-place award is $250, the second-place award is $100, and the third-place award is $50.
